Dance the Night Away!!!

Dimensions 2006-2007

Expectations

The following are personal expectations for each member of the Dimensions Choir.  Most are common sense and should be used in everyday interactions with friends, family, and peers, but some are more team-driven and will help us to start to sing, dance, and essentially perform as a team.

*      Begin and end rehearsals on time.  This means that if rehearsal begins at 7am that you are in attendance by 6:55 and ready to begin at 7am.

*      It is inappropriate to talk during rehearsals unless on a break.

*      Take care of your voice.  We will discuss proper vocal technique, how to care for the voice during longer rehearsals, how to properly sing while dancing, and basic general vocal care.

*      Rehearsals are our time to perfect the show.  The amount of work that gets accomplished is directly related to the amount of effort each member puts forward during our limited time together.  That will make this a STUDENT led class.

*      The entire group will be re-auditioned and re-evaluated each year.

*      We are a team and will rehearse and perform as such.  This includes supporting each other through the good times and the bad.

Grading

*      Quizzes: singing quizzes, dance checks, and small group performances.  Students WILL NOT be assessed on their singing ability, but instead on their knowledge of the music, dance, and small group performances.

*      Self-Evaluations: Students are responsible for evaluating their own effort during rehearsals.  They will evaluate themselves at least once a month in the categories of effort, arriving on time, learning the music, learning/perfecting the choreography, group evaluations, other show choir evaluations, and team work with other members of the Dimensions group.  They will vary in points.

*      All dress rehearsals and performances are mandatory.  If a student misses the rehearsal before the concert/contest, that student will not be able to perform and will only be able to make up those points if the absence is excused.

*      Please see the make-up policy regarding whether or not an absence is excused and how to make up those points.

Rehearsals:  Tuesday 7-8:15am and Thursday 5-7pm.

Other dates as necessary, to be decided by the group.

*      Please bring a capped water bottle to all rehearsals, and a small snack (if necessary) to evening rehearsals.

*      If you are unable to be at a rehearsal, you must notify Mrs. Copic prior to the rehearsal.

Concert, Competition, and Performance Guidelines/Expectations:

*      Performance Outfits:  All performance outfits other than your personal belongings (shoes, cheaters, hosiery, etc) will be maintained by the choral boosters.  You will need to turn in your costume after each performance so that the boosters can go through them and make sure they are not in need of repair and are properly maintained.  New members will need to purchase specific hosiery, cheaters, and shoes.  We will get that information to your early next year.

*      Performance Hair (Girls):  This year, to make invitationals easier on everyone, I would like each girl to purchase her own hair piece.  They will be no more than $35 at Sally’s Beauty Supply.  We will have sample hairpieces so that you can choose the one that best matches your own hair color.  We will work through this process at the beginning of the year.

*      Performance Hair (Guys):  As most of our guys have shorter hair the key to our performance hair will be neat and well-groomed.  If your hair in longer on top, the bigger you can make it (spiked, fluffed, fun) the better it will look on stage.

*      Stage Make-Up (Girls):  New this year, girls will be applying their own make up prior to arriving (or at the invitational if you’d rather) at the host-school’s invitational.  Girls will need to wear base foundation, matte powder, NEUTRAL colors of eye-shadow, blush, and lipstick, and BLACK eye liner and mascara.  We are blessed to have a small army of parent volunteers who will be assisting with makeup if touch-ups or corrections are necessary.  Please bring your make-up with you to the invitationals.

*      Stage Make-Up (Guys):  You are not exempt from wearing make-up at performances.  However, your make-up will be applied at the invitationals by our boosters.

*      “Traveling” Behavior:  It should be no surprise that your actions speak louder than anything else you do while away from our school.  Bottom line behavior expectation is to present yourself the way you want people to remember DCHS Dimensions Members.  All policies listed in the Student Handbook (page 18) are also in effect.  Please remember that our goal while performing out in the community, whether it be a contest or presentation, is to have our best performance and to HAVE FUN!

*      “Traveling” Clothing:  When we travel to compete outside our school, we are representing DCHS.  Your appearance speaks volumes about the pride your show for your school.  Please do not arrive at the host-school wearing your performance outfit.  You are required, instead, to wear this year’s Dimension’s t-shirt and comfortable pants.  You will also need to bring a pair of khaki pants.  WE WILL WEAR OUR DIMENSIONS T-SHIRTS AND KHAKI PANTS DURING THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF FINALS.

Dates/Fun Events NOT mandatory, but optional and could prove to be fun!!!

Race for the Cure                    October 8th                  Principal Park/I-Cubs Stadium

I would like to volunteer at the water stand again.  This event is optional and is certainly eligible to be used for service ours.

National Anthem Singing:  You choose your own date, and venue where you would like to sing.  Venues could include, but are not limited to:  DCHS events, DM Buccaneers Games, I-Cubs Games, and Iowa Stars Games.  If you have other ideas for National Anthem performances, please let me know.

Dimensions Choir Officer Expectations:    To be elected August 12 at the Retreat

*      President:  Act as a student liaison between the director and the members of the choir.  The president will be in charge of semi-annual dinners, team building activities, and assisting the director and Dimensions’ Parent Committee in choosing and executing service projects and fund-raising efforts.

*      Vice-President:  Assist the president.  In charge of the Dimension’s birthday list and celebrations, and in monthly Dimension’s breakfasts.

*      Secretary:  Take attendance; assist Mrs. Copic in group communications.

*      Section Leaders have been chosen by Mrs. Copic.  This year’s section leaders are: Claire Dupey, Becca Evans, Ahley Block, and Jacob Fross.  These officers have consistently shown leadership vocally, with choreography, and in their personal behavior.  These are the students that you will be able to work with to complete your make-ups.

*      Dance Co-Captains (to be elected after choreography camp):  I would like to have 2 dance captains whose gender is unimportant.  While dance ability is important for this role, I am more concerned with the ability to work cooperatively, take charge, and feeling comfortable in leading a group of peers.  Primary responsibilities will be to assist with choreography rehearsals, lead practices by example, and ability rehearse with a group of peers during seminar, before school, and/or after school.
